She tries to stay awake, but as each second pa.s.ses by, it becomes more and more challenging for her to keep her eyes open. Her eyelids become heavier.
She tries to keep her full consciousness and to just stay awake for as much as she possibly can, but her urges from her body begin to become unbearable. Her eyes begin to slowly close, almost by some unearthly command, she cannot control it.
She slowly tilts her head to her right as her head begins to slowly mute away the gasping, shouting, stomping and crying that is around her.
She could see people pa.s.sing by, all of the faces seem unfamiliar, or just unrecognizable, until one face pa.s.ses by, one very familiar face.
But it was too late to think of who it is... or who it was. Her eyes close shut as she exhales her last breath before going to sleep.
"We are losing her!?" one of the nurses said, those were that last words Emma heard, they echoed in her head before she heard the elongated beep sound from the heart rate sensor, but suddenly it began to sound faint, and it just continued to sound fainter and fainter and fainter until all she could hear was silence... peace...
The doctors and the nurses drag Emma's stretcher into a darkened room.
"Get the defibrillator ready," one of the doctors said as he began to take Emma's top off.
"It is ready" one of the nurses gasped as they ran over to the doctor to aid him.
The doctor takes the two defibrillators into his hands, "nurse, the oil please" the doctor orders the nurse as she gets the oil and pours a bit onto the metal bottom of the both of the defibrillators.
"Okay stand back," the doctor says as she rubs the two metal parts together, "nurse 200" he adds as she nurse increases the voltage on the machine.
"Okay, stand back!" the doctor says again, "3, 2, 1" he counts down before... BOOM, Emma's body jumps into the air for a fraction of a second before falling back down onto the bed.
The heart rate sensor still has the elongated beep sound.
"Okay... 250," says the doctor, repeating the procedure, he rubs the two metal parts together before pressing them onto her body and letting the 250 volts go through her body, causing her to jump up again. Nothing happened.
"Change it up to 350," says the doctor. "Doctor are you sure... why would you skip 300?" the nurse asks, becoming concerned. "Just do as you are told" answeres back the doctor.
The nurse lowered her head as she immediately adjusted the machine.
"Ready doctor" the nurse adds.
"Okay... stand back..." the doctor says as she repeats the process again.
Outside of the room, a nurse is standing outside the door, looking worried and impatient.
Suddenly, Emma's mother runs over to the nurse, "is my daughter okay!?" the mother asks the nurse grabbing her by the arms, "please tell me that she is okay," she adds, with tears acc.u.mulating in her eyes.
"Madam, please, we don't know yet, and I'm truly sorry," the nurse says, as she tries to calm her down.
"I am sorry..." Emma's mother begins, "I... I just don't want to lose her too... she is my baby" her mother adds as tears run down her eyes.
"I... I understand..." the nurse says, "but you do not have to worry... we will try our best to wake her up" the nurse adds.
"Wait... wake her up?... I... I don't understand" asks the mother.
"Your daughter... she... she got a cardiac arrest," the nurse tells the mother.
"But... but how is that possible?" Emma's mother begins, "she is only 16!?" she adds, breaking down into tears.
"You don't have to worry, she is very safe hands," the nurse says as she tries to calm down the mother. "And if I hear anything, I'll make sure that you will be the first one to hear... I truly know how it feels" the nurse says as she sits down herself and the mother beside the door.
Suddenly, one of the nurses comes out from the room and turns around to the mother and the nurse sitting on the chair. Her face makes them expect the worst.
"Is my daughter alright?" Emma's mother asks the nurse that just came out of the room.
"Your daughter... she is..." the nurse begins speaking.
"Is she alive?" the mother interrupts the nurse with her soft voice as she begins to sob.
"Your daughter is alive, the heart is back to normal... but her state... it is..." the nurse begins talking but gets interrupted by the doctor calling her back in to help him.
"Thank G.o.d that she is alive..." the mother says with relief as she hugs the nurse beside her. "See... there is no reason for you to be scared. The health of our patients is our number one priority. She is in safe hands" the nurse rea.s.sures Emma's mother.
The nurse becomes relieved as she sees her mother give her a small smile, as tears roll down her cheeks.
"Thank you so much," Emma's mother says to the nurse.
Just as she was about to say a word, she gets interrupted by another nurse, "Triona, we need you".
"I'll be there" the nurse replies, "be strong, I will be back as soon as possible," she tells the mother, leaving and running over to the nurse that called her.
"G.o.d, please save my child" she mutters silently under her breath.
Isabella runs up the stairs and turns to her left, she finds herself in a busy hallway. She continues walking forwards hoping to find Emma's and Jenifer's rooms.
Her hope begins to slowly vanish as she reached the end of the hallways. "Where could their rooms be?" Isabella asks herself. She notices another hallway, perpendicular to the one that she is currently in.
She stops by the entrance, going on her tippy toes and looking around. "Wait... is that... Racheal?" she asks herself as she proceeds on walking down the hallway towards Emma's mom.
She speeds up, getting closer and closer to her, or at least who she thinks is her.
"Miss Scheinfield?" Isabella calls out, as she sees her staring at the floor.
Racheal suddenly jumps a bit as she looks up at the person who called out her name.
"Isabella!" She says, surprised and relieved.
"How are Emma and Jenifer?" Isabella asks her.
Racheal stays quiet for a moment or two, making Isabella feel anxious.
"Please tell me that they are fine... please," Isabella says as she looks at Racheal.
Racheal gives her a rea.s.suring smile before beginning to answer, "they told me that Emma is alive, but they did not mention a word about Jenifer. I am still waiting." Racheal answers.
"I hope you won't mind if I stay here too?" Isabella asks.
"Of course, yeah, please sweetie, sit," Racheal tells Isabella as she lifts her purse from the chair beside her.
"Thank you," Isabella says quietly as she sits down quietly beside Racheal.
*Outside of a youth hostel in Dublin, both Tamara and Tom walk out and enter a navy Nissan Skyline.*
"Are ready?" she asks him.
"I... I am not sure" Tom answers her, "why are you doing this?" he asks her a few moments later.
"Why am I doing this? huh?" she repeats the question, "that's a good question..." she adds.
"Just tell me" he commands her.
"Well... let's see... because I love you?" she tells him.
"Because you love me?" he questions her.
"I see you are questioning me..." Tamara tells Tom.
"No s.h.i.+t sherlock..." Tom answers back, making Tamara giggle a bit.
"Well it is the only thing you are good at, besides breaking other girls hearts" she answers him back as she begins to drive.
"But you will thank me later" she adds giving him a quick glance.
Tom and Tamara exchange looks.
"Car!?" Tom shouts.
"Oh s.h.i.+t!" Tamara remarks as she presses down the brake.
"We almost hit a car... please watch out," Tom tells Tamara as she continues driving.
"We almost did... chillax... what you tense about?" she asks him.
"I... I don't know..." he answers back.
"You still thinking about her?" she asks him.
"What?... No..." he answers him.
"... I see... don't lie to me" she remarks him as she gives him a quick look before looking back at the road.
"What are you talking about?" he asks her, trying to make a confused face.
"You know... I am not stupid, I was in love once too... I mean I still am, but I had a few harsh breakups... and I know how it feels... it feels like s.h.i.+t." she tells him.
"But there couldn't have been another better way of me and Emma breaking up?" he asked her.
"I don't know" she begins, "in my defence, it was kind of your idea" she adds.
"But a good friend... like you, should have suggested another idea." He tells her sourly.
"Wow... well I am soooo sorry that I am not like the definition of a good friend" Tamara answered back sarcastically.
"Look, I am sorry... I just feel guilty for leaving her like that, for not telling her a proper goodbye" Tom owned up to Tamara as he looks out the window at people, some holding hand, while some having their arms wrapped around them.
"I don't blame you... you should feel that... because that is not a way you should leave someone you loved behind... I am just saying" Tamara tells Tom as she drives down the busy street.
"Thank you for being so supportive Tamara," Tom tells her sarcastically as he turns around and looks at her.
"Hey I am just being honest here" she begins, "what are you gonna do now?" she asks him moments later.
"I... I don't know" he tells her as he looks down at the floor of the car, sad.
"Want me to turn back and head to the hospital?" she asks him.
"No... just continue driving," he tells her, barely making out the words as he feels a lump in his throat.
"Alright... Cork city here we come," Tamara says as she takes a left turn and drives into the motorway, heading down towards Cork.
