The main reason there are so many believers, is because the more you try convince a stubborn and uninformed person that he's wrong, the more he'll believe it. All of a sudden everything would make sense, to him at least. If you really want to believe something, you can create thousands of excuses and even fake evidence. For example: "There is no evidence? That's evidence that the government is trying the evidence." or "No one believes me. Must be because they're all ignorant since I can't be ignorant since I'm me." If you explicitly search for arguments that support your idea, you'll miss the hundreds against as that's not what you're searching for.

Humans tend to view things differently based on their goals. Some might even join these kinds of societies just to meet new people. If you're with a group who thinks that you're fighting for the same cause as them, over time you'll create a bond with that's similar to a family. You'll eventually try to hypnotize yourself into truly believing just to avoid the possible outcome where you get abandoned once your true thoughts emerge.

Did you know that although flat earthers believe the Earth is flat, that they accept that the moon is round. They also believe that the sun is actually really small and very close to the earth. Additionally they use Solar Eclipses as a proof for their flat earth conspiracy because the sun (their small sun) would cast a longer shadow on the earth if it was round.

A smaller portion of flat earthers believe that we are being kept on the flat earth because we are being teleported once we reach the edge.

Almost all new flat earthers were converted using YouTube. Of 30 interviewed flat earthers, 29 were convinced due to the YouTube videos they watched.
