Chapter 143

"Fly my pretties." Rue cackled as James launched all of his mobs for the final attack. As if sensing the pixie's command, the funky monkey's let out their horrible, terrible, somewhat comedic screams. Unfortunately, while the cries seemed to stun both Crikey and BurningJazzHands from BLANKs dungeon, Stryker123 also seemed to get stunned. Which was the exact opposite of what James had been planning. The moment the stun debuff appeared, SoulDemon launched another flashy combo, which finished off the valiant leader.

"d.a.m.nit Monkeys." James cursed. He had totally s.p.a.ced the dangers of using his mobs to aid players during the dungeon wars. Area of effect abilities and spells were bound to hit not just enemies but allies as well. On the plus side, at least when James was directly controlling mobs in an instance, he didn't have to worry about his players accidently drawing aggro. There was nothing worse than someone accidently pulling mob aggro during a PvP event.

Achievement Unlocked.

James stared at the popup hesitantly. The timing of it was just too perfect. Sure, it was a new achievement, but he was pretty certain it was also going to be a slap in the face. Still, he figured he could afford a few seconds to look at it, as his mobs rushed to join the battle.

Achievement Unlocked- Et Tu? – Aid invasion forces in the death of your own players

Reward- 1 Dungeon Token

James shook his head and closed the window. He wasn't about to complain about a free dungeon token. Besides, Stryker123 was almost dead to begin with. However, he couldn't help but feel bad. He was trying his best to help the adventurers, not hinder them. At least the achievement hadn't awarded him with any experience, then he would have really felt like a d.i.c.k.

"Here comes the best part." Rue watched gleefully as the mobs zeroed in on their respective targets. James had sent the bulk of his mobs towards the tank formation, mainly because he would need to continue to break through their defenses and disrupt their healing. However, that didn't mean he hadn't figured out a way to deal with SouldDemon. The fact that Stryker123 had fallen, actually made the task of bringing down the Phantom Blade a little easier. And perhaps even more awesome.

"Do you get the feeling the dungeon is trying to get rid of us?" CheapHealz asked as he and the rest of BLANKs members that were in their defensive circle turned to look at James's army of mobs. Eight snuggle woofs were rus.h.i.+ng towards them, one of them larger than the others, a fluffy horn on its head. With eight of the pack mobs together, they were guaranteed to keep their attack buff for a much longer time. Which spelled danger for the invaders.

However, that wasn't the true terror of the attack force. Just as James had in RTS games, he incorporated a mixture of ground and air troops in this attack. On the back of the flying monkeys his two remaining mounted knights clung tightly with their lances leveled towards the ground. The great flying mob duo that had been the brainchild of Rue offered James quite the advantage during this fight. Mainly because the adventurers couldn't possibly block all of the incoming attacks and debuffs being launched at them.

To secure the kill, James sent his remaining two giant Playthons to ensure the adventurers didn't have an opening to escape. The serpents also created a barricade meant to keep SoulDemon from regrouping with his party if he wanted too. Another benefit James had in the current battle, was that he knew, for the most part, what the cla.s.ses could do. Sure, he had little knowledge on the Phantom Blade cla.s.s, but after watching Soul Demon, he had figured some of its tricks out. The most important James had though, was the range of the healing spells that a High Cleric of Light had. And unfortunately for the Phantom Blade, he was out of range. You really should never split the party.

"Soul, we need you." SpinToWin called out to his party leader. SoulDemon glanced back and saw the incoming mob army bearing down on his partners, and silently cussed. With reckless abandon he tore into Nyx, bringing the weary cleric down in a split second. A moment later, SoulDemon was left staring at the only two members remaining on James's side, Axel42 and FlashFyre.

"Seriously?" SoulDemon had the exact same comment that James had. Rue however, had started clapping and cheering. The moment the Phantom Blade had finished off the Cleric, FlashFyre had grabbed Axel42 and pulled him in for a long kiss. The surprised Summoner stood there dumbstruck for a moment, before he wrapped his arms around the necromancer, and really started to get into it.

The distraction, which FlashFyre had apparently fully intended, had its effect. In that moment of pause as SoulDemon tried to rationalize what the h.e.l.l was going on, FlashFyre's skeletal mages launched a barrage of attacks on the Phantom Blade.

"Oh, I like her." Rue nodded approvingly; her eyes full of mischief. "A girl after my own heart." James had to admit, it was a clever plan. He was pretty sure he would have been just as surprised if he was in SoulDemon's shoes. After all, the last thing you expected when you raided anything, an enemy dungeon, or were battling it out in a large PvP map, was to find two players making out. Totally not the scene for that.

"Sorry." FlashFyre shot Phantom Blade a knowing wink as she pulled away from Axel42. The summoner blinked a few times, looking around, before he realized what had just happened. Taking in the scene, the summoner seemed to quickly give his own mob an order, as his Steamosaurus turned its guns on the Phantom Blade as well. Of course, by the time he did that, SoulDemon had recovered his senses as well.

"I'm going to enjoy this." The phantom blade said darkly, his eyes burning with fury at FlashFyre. In response, the necromancer shrugged and took another step closer to the portal to leave the level. She really was playing dirty. James was starting to like the duo even more.

"Can't let you hurt my girlfriend." Axel42 responded to the Phantom Blade. The summoner placed himself in front of FlashFyre, as if trying to protect her from SoulDemon. Granted, James was pretty sure the Necromancer didn't need any protecting.

"Seriously? A white knight?" SoulDemon shook his head. "Freaking casuals." Without warning he dashed forward. His form became a blur as he approached the two, likely intending to kill them in a single strike, before either could port away. With them dead, the attacking summoned mobs would fade away as well, and he would be able to go help his teammates finish off all the mobs James had sent after them. It was the logical play. Of course, there was one small flaw in the plan. SoulDemon didn't look up.

Even as his form blurred, James's Jolly Dollies burst into action. He had ordered all 17 of the jolly dollies to begin launching their attacks the moment SoulDemon moved from his spot. FlashFyre's distraction attempt had bought the dollies the last few moments they needed to get themselves fully in position.

As such, when SoulDemon dashed forward, 17 different jolly dolly hooks were launched from above the treetops. While the adventurer was moving at an enhanced speed, which was going to give him an advantage against the players, it didn't have the same effect on the jolly dollies.

"Thank you aim a.s.sist." James cheered as he watched the hooks. .h.i.t their marks. Of course, this wasn't just the normal aim a.s.sist that the game had given the mobs. The latest skill he had upgraded on the jolly dollies, knowing full well that adventurers were just going to keep getting stronger and faster as they leveled up, was a skill simply called Jessie. James had no idea where the skill name had come from, but it had given the jolly dollies access to an improved aim a.s.sist for their snaring skill. The improved aim also upgraded the animation for their skill. Instead of just chucking their pull strings with the rings down at adventurers, or dropping them down and yanking them up quickly, they twirled the strings around their heads like a la.s.so, before launching at the prefect time.

The end result was that SoulDemon found himself snared by half a dozen different doll hooks. The dollies all pulled up and moved about in different directions, as the level 40 player struggled violently against the strings, doing his best to try and break free, the ranged attacks on him continued. His efforts were also in vain, courtesy of an additional buff, Braided Wire, James had chosen for his dollies. He had added that upgrade after watching Z and his party cut through the dollies' strings on more than one occasion. With the upgrade, the strings gained rather high defense rating, making them ridiculously hard to cut. Of course, the dollies were still rather weak and squishy, so if one party member was caught, all the others had to do was kill the dolly to free their friends. The only problem was, SoulDemon had split himself away from the party, putting him at mercy the disturbing and nightmarish little dollies.

"You've got to be s.h.i.+tting me." SoulDemon called out as more attacks launched into him. He was being drawn and quartered by creepy little dolls, while skeletons launched magical attacks at him, and a steampunk stegosaurus blasted him with a back mounted artillery cannon. Needless to say, it was probably the most bizarre thing anyone, on either side of the fight, had seen. Meanwhile, his party was being pounced to death by 8 fluffy wolf/Siberian husky looking animals, two brightly colored stuffed animal snakes, and flying monkeys, with bongo drums, who had teddy bears riding their backs. Even as the fight came to conclusion, James was pulling up the recording for this instance. He had just found his next viral video. What's more, he was really hoping this battle had been broadcast to everyone tuning into the dungeon wars. It was just too good.

Level Up!

Achievement Unlocked.

Achievement Unlocked.

As SoulDemon and his party burst apart, leaving James's dungeon and rewarding him with a rush of experience, two different achievement messages popped up.

Achievement Unlocked- c.o.c.k Blocked (1) – Defeat a group of invaders in possession of over 100 essence

Reward- 500xp, 100 resources, 1 dungeon token

Achievement Unlocked- Jolly Good- Kill an adventurer who has been damaged by 5 or more Jolly Dollies

Reward- 2000xp, 300 resources, 1 Jolly Dolly Upgrade Point.

Alright, now it was too good.

"Well Rue," James closed the achievement windows and looked at the pixie. So far, he was having a blast with the dungeon wars. However, he they had just started, and he was sure the novelty would wear off sooner or later. That being said, since he planned to wait till the end of the first day to look over his earned essence, to get a better idea of how much he would have come the first face to face battle on the Fields of Battle, he had some time to spare. And, with all the achievements he was gaining, he figured he should spend some resources. "I'm thinking it's time to build some more traps." Traps were going to be vital against invaders. Not only that, he needed to better trap the Shrine of Yarx, at least during dungeon wars. He couldn't let invaders benefit from that stupid shrine. Not now.
