Chapter 13

He Zhishu slept for 20 minutes then woke up. Aside from the shackles that Jiang Wenxu used last night and removed, he was feeling more comfortable. He saw Jiang Wenxu cooking and he quietly stood by the kitchen door. He thought that it was a rare and quiet day, something he had not seen for a long time. Jiang Wenxu has a good body, wide shoulders, narrow b.u.t.tocks and long legs. His sleeves were rolled up his shoulder, revealing his fit arms. Jiang Wenxu concentrated on cooking, his stern eyebrows emanating his manliness. When Jiang Wenxu turned around he was startled to see He Zhishu standing there.

“Oh, you're awake.” he said then laughed.

Today he wasn't impatient and rude, instead looked very relaxed.

“Your body clock is very accurate. Do you want to eat now?” he asked.

He Zhishu helped him prepare the tableware. He approached Jiang Wenxu and opened his mouth to taste the dish his lover had made.

“The taste is light, but enough.” he said. “Don't add salt. Too much flavor is bad for the body.”

He Zhishu paused, feeling ridiculous. When they were eating the mood was very pleasant. He Zhishu tasted every dish and they were all good. But his smile gradually melted into sadness which he could not hide.

“Jiang Wenxu, what did you do this morning?” He Zhishu asked, managing a smile.

Jiang Wenxu didn't take much thought and attention to this question and dismissed it. He refilled He Zhishu's dish and said, “Eat more. When I finish this project, I will spend more time with you.”

He Zhishu stopped eating. He glanced at Jiang Wenxu's slender hands and asked.

“Where is your ring?”

Jiang Wenxu groaned and failed to respond for a while. He was guilty and unconsciously repeated the question.

“Where is it? Uhm…”

Jiang Wenxu couldn't have forgotten about the ring. It was a birthday gift given to him by He Zhishu nine years ago. He Zhishu had been working hard and had been saving money for something more expensive. He was running out of time and his money was still not enough. Instead, he bought a pair of silver rings. They were very plain and the patterns weren't that special. He Zhishu would stare at them everyday when he had the time and personally did the engravings on it, leaving his hands sore and bleeding. When he gave Jiang Wenxu the ring Jiang Wenxu was very touched and felt distressed. He felt that it was the best thing in the world. But how did he lose it? Jiang Wenxu wasn't quite sure. When he was sleeping with Shenzui for the first time, he was drunk and Shenzui was all over him with pa.s.sion. That night, he imagined Shenzui was He Zhishu, as the child was quite like the eighteen years old He Zhishu. His hair was soft and black, eyes clear and innocent, and would also call him Brother Jiang with a spoiled tone. He lost the ring that night. Shenzui said he not saw it and he was too drunk and must have dropped it somewhere. He had lost his precious ring but He Zhishu didn't seem to notice back then. After some time, he had forgotten about it. He even thought of customizing a pair of diamond rings for him and He Zhishu, but was just too busy with the company and Shenzui's clinginess. His plans were delayed and soon forgotten. Now that He Zhishu is suddenly looking for the ring, he hadn't prepared any answer. Fortunately for him He Zhishu didn't prodded more. He lowered his eyes and casually resumed eating.

“It's okay. It's not that expensive.” said He Zhishu.

“It's okay to lose the ring… Just like losing me.” this part he thought but didn't say.

He had been so accustomed to disappointment that he no longer expressed it.

Jiang Wenxu, swallowed, cleared his throat and answered. “I must've forgotten where I placed it. I didn't lose it. If you have time we could get a new pair, what do you think? Even if we can't catch the fifteenth anniversary, we have a second. Ten years of commemoration."

He Zhishu said nothing and just smiled. Done eating, he put down his chopsticks and washed his hand.

“Eat more. I'm going to boil some water. If you need something just call me.” he said.
