Chapter 7
A tinted Mercedes-Benz s600 was park on the other side of the road. He Zhishu saw no one off the car and so he went inside his home. The house was quiet. He changed his shoes and sat on the sofa, but as he rested he heard the door being unlocked.
When Jiang Wenxu left this morning, he could not stop thinking of what had happened. He tried to divert his mind, but the thought of He Zhishu going out with others made him restless. Jiang Wenxu admited to himself that he was guilty, but such behavior was just normal for a man. He went out with other people looking for fun, but the idea of He Zhishu doing the same he just couldn't tolerate. This new friend that He Zhishu mentioned, he didn't believe they were just friends. After pondering for some hours, Jiang Wenxu decided to go back and explain to He Zhishu. The past years his affection for him had grown stale. He Zhishu's character bored him and had lost all the extra tricks in bed he used to have. But he knew deep in him, he didn't want to cheat forever, he didn't want to lose He Zhishu. When he returned, he was surprised that He Zhishu had gone out.
“Who was that? The one who drove you home?” Jiang Wenxu confronted He Zhishu. “What? Are you too cold to be angry?”
HeZhishu rubbed his temple: "It's a friend."
“The friend who sent you the orchids?” Jiang Wenxu slammed the door. “Where does he live? Introduce him to me.”
He Zhishu took off his jacket and reclined, his face devoid of emotion. “He is my doctor. He provides me my prescribed medicines.”
“Your doctor drives you home? Well then, what medicine are you taking? Where is it?” Jiang Wenxu sneered. “You didn't even tell me you are sick. How long have you been sick? Do you often go to the hospital just to get familiar with the doctor?”
Jiang Wenxu's eyes was filled with suspicion, but He Zhishu only smiled.
“The medicine is in the car…” He Zhishu replied, looking at Jiang Wenxu directly in the eyes. “You do not have to worry. He is a good doctor, young and rich, gentle and careful. Our relations.h.i.+p is solely professional, and he doesn't like me.”
When Jiang Wenxu's was outside he could manage his temper, but with He Zhishu he went all out. His eyes went red and he grabbed He Zhishu by the collar. “Don't tell me you dare have such thoughts!”
“The mind is a difficult thing to understand.” He Zhishu answered, not bothering to push him away. “It doesn't matter what I said. You don't know what is true and what is false. Besides, I don't think you really care.”
He Zhishu stared at Jiang Wenxu's face, his red eyes made him look more pleasing than his pale ones.
“Have I been gone long enough to make you lonely? Why didn't you tell me that you didn't want to be lonely?” said Jiang Wenxu, shoving He Zhishu downed on the sofa.
He stared at him condescendingly, insulting him.
He Zhishu didn't want to anger Jiang Wenxu more and so he remained calm and spoke gently.
“You haven't seen me like this before, have you? Does it frighten you?”
Jiang Wenxu slapped him. Shocked and embarra.s.sed, He Zhishu was unable to react. He didn't feel the pain, only the ringing in his head. The two of them had lived together for years. This was not the first time they had a fight. However, this was the first time Jiang Wenxu actually hit him. Before, when they get into a heated argument they would just go to bed and sleep it off. Even if he broke some stuff, it was okay. These are just material things and can be replaced. But today was different. Jiang Wenxu was very suspicious and possessive, but this he tolerated. Back then he was often jealous. Jiang Wenxu always pretended to be a cute and loyal puppy, but He Zhishu knew he was a wild and unruly wolf. When he greeted him, he wagged his tail and ran towards him. Sometimes Jiang Wenxu would pretend to be the victim, looking at him with teary eyes and melancholy voice.
“I am jealous… Stay away from him…” he would say.
This was Jiang Wenxu playing a role, but when he really was jealous his behavior wasn't as romantic. He was volatile, unpredictable and spoke harshly, just like how he was now.
