SORCERESS 101 255 The Chalice That Should Not Be Open

When they entered the room, they saw Schoolmaster Yin writing something over his study table. His quill feather pen danced in the untanned sheet of vellum leaving a trace of black ink along its trail

As soon as Schoolmaster Yin noticed the presence of the group of warlock inside his chamber, he stopped on what he was doing and put down the quill that he was holding.

After setting his set of vellum and quill to his side, Schoolmaster Yin lifted his gaze and looked at Mu Lingxi's group with a smile.

He nodded his head towards the group to acknowledge them while Mu Lingxi and her friends clasp their hand and bowed their head deeply to show their respect.

"Good day, Schoolmaster Yin. What can we do for you?"

"HAHAHA!"

Instead of answering Fan Lei's question, Schoolmaster Yin burst into hearty laughter."

"This student... Why are you all acting timid when I'm around??? Do I looked like someone who was going to eat you whole??"

"Errr??"

Facing Schoolmaster Yin's abrupt question, the group didn't know how they should react.

What's with Schoolmaster Yin just now??? Is he trying to make us laugh??? Why is acting too casual and talking to informally???

Like duh???

Who would not feel tensed up or pressured if the schoolmaster of your school suddenly call you out the next day after he caught your group doing something the last night???

This was only making them all uncomfortable for some reason.

"The reason why I have called your group is that I have good news for you..."

Upon hearing the word 'good news' out from Schoolmaster Yin's mouth, the group heaved a sigh of relief.

But although they wanted to learn more about that 'good news', they didn't speak their mind right away and let Schoolmaster Yin continue.

"I recently had some progress on my research about soul arts, so I guess it won't take me long before I could be able to cure the magical beast that you brought here last time."

Long Yue's eyes glowed in delight when he heard the next words that come out from Schoolmaster Yin's mouth. The rest of the group were also delighted upon hearing the news. It was indeed good news.

"Thank you, Schoolmaster Yin. Thank you so much!!!"

Long Yue said as he tried his best to fight back his tears of joy.

"Don't thank me yet. This is no free lunch. Before I could help you out, you need to help me with something first. I would need your group to procure an item for me.

An item???

What could possibly be that item that would require even their schoolmaster to ask for someone else a.s.sistance just to procure it???

But even though their curiosity was eating them up, the group chose to reign over their curious minds so as not to interrupt what Scholmaster Yin was about to say next.

"It was an Ancient Chalice hidden somewhere within the  Sanguine Tundra."

"Sanguine Tundra???"

The group muttered among themselves.

This place does not sound familiar. It was their first time hearing it at all

Is it another uncharted territory that the Ancient Domains of Mystery managed to discover???

Noting the confused look from the group of warlocks, Schoolmaster Yin continued his explanation.

"Sanguin Tundra is a newly discovered territory by the Ancient Domains of Mystery. From what I know, this integrated territory also served as one of the battlefields during the Great War of Magi."

Over time, the Ancient Domains of Mystery dedicated themselves to searching for more wormholes scattered along the continent.

From this wormholes lies each uncharted territories that they wish to venture and made available to the present mage community.

They believed that by doing so, they would be able to connect the future to its past generations, making the mage community be more powerful than ever.

The job of Ancient Domains of Mystery is to build portals among these wormholes and make it accessible to other warlocks and sorceresses who wish to contribute to the mage society.

Through the help of different schools of magic, the information regarding these uncharted territories was made known to many. Mainly through sending their students over the place.

The school mission is created for this purpose. The students were given a chance to experience the outside world and apply what they learned in school to practical use.

They will be asked to get something for the school and in return, they will receive ample rewards if they managed to complete the mission.

Just like the land of Echurid, the Sanguine Tundra is also believed to be the place of dwellings of the Necromancers during the ancient times before it was turned into a wasteland after the war.

Furthermore, Schoolmaster Yin also learned some inside information about the place. It was said that

Somewhere within the midst of that wasteland called Sanguine Tundra lies a secret that had been buried together with the annihilation of the pract.i.tioners of necromancy

It was said that an Ancient Chalice can be found in that place and that Ancient Chalice was believed to be used by the necromancers during their sacrificial offerings.

If Schoolmaster Yin could get his hand over that item, then he could be able to further understand the intricacy of soul arts.

But as an official warlock, not to mention a schoolmaster of a prestigious school of magic, the Magus Academia, it was below him to personally search for this item. 

It won't look good for him if he would be seen entering an uncharted territory just to acquire a hidden treasure for himself.

Aside from that, these kinds of opportunities are made available for the young warlocks and sorceresses by means of accepting school missions. As such, he needs help from Mu Lingxi's group.

After all, he was also doing this to help them. So Schoolmaster Yin believes that it is not like he was purposely trying to take advantage of the other party.

He would be able to get his hand over the item that he needed to further his knowledge in soul arts. At the same time, he would also be able to help this group of warlocks to resolve their problem.

With that being said, the group of warlocks before him cannot be said to be taking the shorter end of the stick

As such, when Mu  Lingxi and her friends heard the complete explanation straight from Schoolmaster Yin, they nodded their heads in understanding. What he said really made sense.

There is no such thing as free lunch in this world. If they need a favor from the other party then they also have to do something for him in return to be fair.

Besides, they also do not wish to be indebted to Schoolmaster Yin, that would only make them uncomfortable

It seemed that they really have to venture more lands that used to host the necromancers if they wish to uncover more about its practice

"Let us just hope that we won't be meeting another army f the undead in that place."

Fan Lei had a bitter smile on his face when he said that. Seconding that notion Chan Gu said in the same bitter expression.

"Yeah, I sincerely hope that we could stay clear with those monsters this time.

Despite knowing the danger that possibly awaits them in the Sanguine Tundra, Mu Lingxi and her friends still accepted the school mission directly from their schoolmaster.

"Right, there is also one thing that you must always have to keep in mind once you already have the Ancient Chalice in your possession."

Schoolmaster Yin said when he recalled about something very important.

"By no means, you must allow the Ancient Chalice to be opened by anyone. It is not meant to be open."

"An item that is not meant to be open??"

Is it some kind of Pandora's box or something???

Upon hearing the only rule that was provided to them, another spark of curiosity hit the group of warlocks

To make sure that the group understands the severity of that only rule, Schoolmaster Yin provided them another set of information.

"Necromancers used the Ancient Chalice to call forth a fallen deity. By uncovering the Ancient Chalice, they would be able to establish a connection or in some cases, summon their deity to receive their sacrificial offerings."

Curiosity is one of the known banes of mankind. Anything that seemed to be inexplicable to someone only draws them more to try it out.

So Schoolmaster Yin finds the need to give them a proper heads up and not to leave them wondering among themselves. Lest they would be tempted by the unknown. 

Since it was Schoolmaster Yin who personally asked them for the mission, he also gathered all the information available for the place.

So that Mu Lingixi and her friends no longer have to bury themselves under books just to do their research for the newly discovered uncharted territory.

With Schoolmaster Yin doing all the data gathering, the group felt more relieved and secure. Since it was the schoolmaster itself who was doing the research, there is no doubt that it would be more accurate compared to what they could actually come up with their joint effort.

This could be considered as one of the perks from accepting a direct mission for the Schoolmaster. The group will be provided with everything they need in the mission.

Not just an insider information about the place, even resources were made available for them. Food supplies, as well as useful artifacts, are also part of inclusion for this school mission and Schoolmaster YIn provided all of them

Now, all was left for their group is to venture the Sanguine Tundra and procure the Ancient Chalice
