It had been a few days since we had sent the message to Silas and Aaron and I was beginning to wonder if I had been too late. I still hadn't heard from them, nor had I heard from Leon. It had nearly been a month since Leon left and we were all worried.

Aiden and Liza had dropped by and Aiden asked about his whereabouts not knowing what all had transpired that day. Adam, Casimir, Lothair and I told them everything. About Darin and the day Adam made me tell Leon the truth and what had happened. They were quiet, realizing the level of betrayal that had happened. But now they were worried about him, too.

Adam and I were sitting at the table in the kitchen talking when the doorbell rang. I got up and walked to the door to answer it. As I did, there was a thin, short man standing on my porch. His dark brown hair was short and perfect with his dark brown eyes peering at me through small metal framed gla.s.ses. His thick black dress coat covered his tan sweater and made him look distinguished and proper. "Are you Drusilla McCoy?" he asked in a perfect English accent.

"Depends on who's asking," I stated as everyone entered the room behind me.

"My apologies, my name is Edward Grissom Pierce. I am a advisor from the council…" I interrupted him by slamming the door in his face. "I am here to warn you of a grave danger from the council. I am not here on council orders, I have left to warn you of their plans to have you killed," he finished through the closed door.

Then, I was interested. I swung the door open and looked around him, out into the driveway. When I didn't see anyone, I blinked my fangs out and looked again with my extremely keen blue eyes. When I still didn't see anything, I motioned for him to come in. "Make it quick. Explain," I said as I closed the door. My fangs were still out to show that I meant what I said.

"They are planning to kill you, Drusilla."

"Dru, just Dru," I corrected him coldly.

"Dru, apologies, they have created and trained Windigo to hunt you down, but these things are not like your normal everyday Windigo, though."

"What are you talking about?" Lothair stepped forward and that is when Edward Wendell Pierce realized that I was far from alone.

"Who, or shall I ask what are all of you? If I may," Edward asked properly.

"I am Lothair, the first Lycanthrope."

"I am Casimir, a Krznik, the only Krznik."

"I am Adam, a human."

"And The Immune," Casimir finished as I gazed at Edward.

"The prophecy?" He asked.

"Soon," I replied.

"Explain, please. What is this about Windigo?" Lothair asked.

"The council knows of the prophecy," Edward stated.

"Yeah, everyone does," I laughed.

"Yes, and like many others, the council, too, wants to stop your daughter from being born," Edward looked solemnly into my eyes and I knew he spoke the truth. "They do not want the age of the vampire to come to an end. So, they have created Windigo and trained them to hunt you down and kill you."

"How many?" Lothair asked.

"Five that I know of but there could be more," Edward answered as he turned to Lothair.

"Five's not a problem," Lothair said as a s.h.i.+ver ran down his back. "I can take on five by myself," he finished with a laugh.

"No, you do not understand. These are not your normal Windigo. These things are full of a steroid that enhances their rage astronomically. These things are extremely dangerous," Edward pleaded. "Please, do not underestimate these creatures. They can tear a normal Windigo apart without hesitation. I know. I've seen it."

"Then I guess it may take Lothair and me, both to take care of them," Casimir added.

"Oh, don't forget about me," I chimed. "When?"

"I am not sure exactly when they are going to send them but I wanted you to know."

"Why, send them at all? I thought the council would want the vampires gone. Why kill your only chance to destroy them?" Adam asked. "Why go after Dru?"

"Purpose, power, stature, they are the Hunters Council. They have grown accustomed to the power of the t.i.tle and I threaten that power," I stated.

"I don't understand," Adam admitted.

"We are to have a daughter who shall bring an end to the vampire. Without vampire, there is no need for vampire hunters. No hunters, no advisors. No advisors, no council. If there is no council then they lose their t.i.tle and with it their power. They would be just normal old men from a secret society that would no longer exist. They would rather fight than lose that. By killing me, the prophecy would not be fulfilled; therefore they would stay just as they are, leaders of the secretive hunters council," I finished with exaggeration.

"So they would rather kill you to keep their t.i.tle and power over getting rid of all vampires once and for all?" Adam asked astonished.

"That's how these old men are. They don't care about anyone but themselves," Casimir added.

I looked at Casimir, "You should have let me take care of them when I had the chance," I smirked.

"No, what would that have done. They would've just established a new council," Casimir replied and he was right.

I looked at Adam, who looked amazed by my comment. His blue eyes were wide and his mouth slightly open. "About two hundred years ago, I was having some problems with the council. They were angry that I was letting vampires live, namely Leon and Silas. They tried to have me killed to allow a new hunter to come in and kill them. I had wanted to go and end it but Casimir stopped me, saying that it would have made me the monster for killing humans. So I opted not to. I had listened to him then and now the council would send Windigo to kill me to save the bloodsuckers in the world," I explained.

"That is also a fear of theirs," Edward informed me. "They fear you killing them because they know you do not like them."

"They should have thought about that many years ago," I mumbled under my breath. "So they really do want me dead. Did they fear me before or after they decided to send Windigo after me?" I asked.

"Before," he answered. "Long before. Everyone knows who you are and what you look like. But they said that you had red hair and green eyes and big…" he stopped and patted his chest. "At least that is what they described."

"What?" I asked, "Do they not know that I died thirty years ago?"

Edward gave me a puzzled look. "What do you mean, you died?"

"Thirty years ago, Lena, my lover, and I were killed. I don't yet remember what happened but I was reborn into this body. Only recently did I remember who I was before."

Edward took a seat in one of my plush leather chairs and exhaled sharply. "This is news. But it would explain why you look nothing like they said," he finished with a chuckle.

"Yeah," I answered.

The room was silent for quite some time. Casimir and Lothair looked like they were forming some game plan to keep me safe. Edward just looked lost and Adam stood in his loose gray s.h.i.+rt and blazer. His hair was beautifully spiked perfect above his head and his lashes looked darker today. "Are you okay?" I whispered to him.

"Yeah, just worried about you," he answered.

"Don't be, everyone here has my back. Nothing is going to happen," I rea.s.sured him.

"I know," he said as he looked into my eyes and I could see the concern in them.

"Where are they being held?" Casimir asked Edward.

"I do not know but I can find out," Edward answered.

"Yes, find out and let us know so we can expect them." Casimir demanded.

"I will," Edward said and turned to leave. "Oh, and by the way, now that I have seen the two of you, I have every belief that our savior shall be a beautiful one." He finished with a smile as he left and walked out of the house.

Lothair, Casimir and Adam stayed in the living room to calculate a plan, I a.s.sumed. I went to my room and I sat on the large four-post, deep red mahogany bed and let everything sink in. The council wanted me dead and they feared me. They were sending the most dangerous creatures after me to ensure my death, though they didn't know that I had already died once.

I couldn't take the silence of the bedroom anymore and decided to step outside to clear my head. Everyone was asleep by the time I went outside and the house was dark. So I sat in the patio chair outside and looked up at the now waning moon, I took in strength from the moon G.o.ddess. That's when I heard it.

A tiny voice in the midst of my favorite wind chimes on the back eve of the house, it was a beautiful chime, very basic and it was very old. Lena had bought it for me shortly after the house was built. She had told me that it had screamed my name at her when she saw it. The chimes themselves were basic and silver with a deep wood base at the top. In the wood, someone had carved out three dimensional roses that naturally would scream my name. Over the span of my life, I had always loved roses, so why wouldn't the chime scream at her.

I sat looking at the chime, waiting to hear the tiny voice again. 'Lay-lan' is what is sounded like. In two long notes, 'Lay-lan' I heard it again. Laylan? Couldn't be, Laylan is just a name, a fict.i.tious person that my mind made up, right? That must've been it; Laylan was a name in my mind. The daughter of the Moon G.o.ddess, so as I was looking at the moon, the chimes sang to me. That's it! It's just in my mind. I shook my head trying to clear my mind. I was hearing voices now, great! I rubbed my temples with my fingers telling myself to calm down.

'Lay-lan' the chimes sang again and I peered at the chimes now completely panicked. I really was hearing things, now. I had finally lost my mind.

"You shouldn't be out here alone," I heard someone say. I looked up and saw his shadow in the darkness. As he stepped forward I could see that he was thinner and more worn than he had been when he left. I looked at him with love and concern. I jumped up and ran to him, without thinking about what I was doing, I threw my arms around his neck and kissed him. His arms held me close as he returned the kiss. We pulled back and he kept his eyes closed. "Dru, I am so sorry," he whispered as our foreheads rested on each other's.

"No, it's okay. Adam was right. We needed to clear the air and now…" I pulled back and looked into his honey, gold eyes. "I don't hate you; I don't want you to hate yourself. I was so worried about you. I love you, Leon."

"I love you, too," Leon said and pulled me into a strong emotional embrace.
