His bamboo tube had been marked, but this one bore no such mark.

“What’s wrong?” Fifth Master Han asked.

“My bamboo tube was swapped.” Taoist Qingfeng replied.

Fifth Master Han approached him skeptically.

Taoist Qingfeng opened the bamboo tube, revealing it to be empty. The note inside had long been taken by Gu Jiao.

Fifth Master Han pondered for a moment before extending his hand toward Taoist Qingfeng. “Give me the bamboo tube. I have a way to figure this out.”

Without hesitation, Taoist Qingfeng handed it over.

Fifth Master Han frowned slightly, “Aren’t you worried I’ll take your bamboo tube and run off with it?”

Taoist Qingfeng glanced at him, “I can always take it back.”

Fifth Master Han, unable to refute: “…”

“This is a military communication tube. To prevent tampering, information is also inscribed on the inner wall of the bamboo tube.” He explained as he cracked the tube open and used a flame stick to heat the outside.

Gu Jiao galloped fiercely on the Black Wind King, charging ahead with urgency.

In truth, she had just deduced the hidden mechanism herself. The six partic.i.p.ants’ roles could be interchanged, which meant that even if she destroyed the other two real secret letters, it wouldn’t guarantee her safety.

She needed to complete the mission as quickly as possible.

Her first priority was to leave the forest. Once she reached the official road, she would be much safer; at least no one would dare to a.s.sa.s.sinate her openly.

However, just as Gu Jiao was about to exit the forest, Fifth Master Han suddenly appeared, riding his Black Demon Horse down a side path.

Gu Jiao instantly sensed an overwhelming killing intent. Her eyes narrowed sharply as she swiftly drew the red-ta.s.seled spear from her back, raising it to block in front of the Black Wind King’s head.

A sharp clash rang out, accompanied by a burst of sparks.

It was a dagger.

Had Gu Jiao reacted even a moment slower, the Black Wind King’s head would have been pierced by the blade.
