“Enough!” Xue Haolin indifferently interrupted Lin Xiaomi. “Don't let me hear you insult Xin'er again. Otherwise, I won't let you go.”
Lin Xiaomi sadly took one step back and asked with a smile, “How you won't let me go? Sew my mouth or directly kill me?”
Xue Haolin saw the crystal tears in her eyes, but she smiled, stubbornly stopping her tears from streaming down her face.
He felt somewhat upset upon seeing this.
Lin Xin'er stood between them and said after holding his arm, “Forget it! You two stop arguing with each other. It's me to blame for coming up with this proposal.”
“Xiaomi, since you don't want to be my maid of honor, just neglect my words, and I won't force you.”
Lin Xiaomi tugged at Xue's sleeve and said in a low voice, “Why did you argue with Xiaomi? She's just capricious. I'm kinda curious. Haolin, you like the me in your memory or me now? If I'm not the kid in your memory anymore, will you marry me?”
Lin Xin'er looked at Xue Haolin sideways with a naughty smile. She looked like each woman in a relations.h.i.+p who always loved asking some weird questions.
Xue Haolin was in a daze for a moment and nodded without caring about her words. “Of course I will. You gave me all the warmth as a kid, but now you're beautiful and kind. I also like it very much.”
Lin Xiaomi happily snuggled into Xue Haolin's arms with a happy smile. In his arms where he couldn't see her behaviors, Lin Xin'er looked at Lin Xiaomi defiantly but said to him softly, “You give me the creeps. How could you say those words?”
Lin Xiaomi only felt that a deep cut was left on her heart and didn't even notice how she walked out of the building.
She suddenly found herself ridiculous. What happened between her and Xue Haolin was years ago when they were just kids.
Was it meaningful that she kept a childhood promise and stubbornly forced him to honor his promise?
Perhaps, Xue Haolin cared more about the grown “playmate”.
After all, he said he wanted to marry Lin Xin'er even if she was not the kid in his memory.
So what else could Lin Xiaomi hold onto?
But why did she feel so sad?
She felt that she was abandoned.
Right, she got accustomed to being abandoned. As she grew up, she possessed few things...the incomplete family, her deceased father and mean mother...
She had no toys, no playmates, and even no one willing to talk to her until she met Xue Haolin.
They had a similar fate and thereby became good friends. Frightened and hopeful, she wanted to hide her sole friend to stop Lin Xin'er from finding out.
She had thought that Xue Haolin was the only one who Lin Xin'er couldn't s.n.a.t.c.h away from her.
Now, she was deserted again.
Never mind. Even if all people abandoned her, she wouldn't give up on herself, for she had her grandmother to look after.
“Lin Xiaomi, there is nothing to feel sad! Take your tears back and no one will sympathize with you!” shouted she like a crazy person on the street.
She shouted, then laughed, and cried in the end.
When she finished crying, she wiped her tears and went back to the magazine.
She called Sun Ru first and tell him that she finished the interview.
“Senior Brother, can I write this report?” asked she in an undertone. She knew that she was disqualified to do so for the time being.
Even if she completed the interview, she didn't have the qualification to write the report.
However, as an open-minded person, Sun Ru didn't regard Lin Xiaomi as a person seeking quick successes and said, “Okay, but let me read your draft first.”
Lin Xiaomi said with grat.i.tude, “Thank you, Senior Brother.”
Having written the report very carefully, she gave it to Sun Ru, and the latter said satisfyingly, “Xiaomi, you always finish your report to my satisfaction. When you hand it to the chief editor, you can use your name. I believe the chief editor will give you chances.”
“Thank you, Senior Brother.”
She developed one more photo of Xue Haolin. This was the only real photo of him she possessed.
She wanted to put it on the last page of the newspaper cutting and brought everything to an end.
When she was about to go off work, she received a call from Leng Yihuang. “Can you be off work early?”
“Why?”
“To buy a car.”
“Ah?” She considered this a joke. When he took her to a 4S shop, she had a deep feeling of reality.
When he asked for her opinions, she pointed at the cheapest Chery cars, for all the other cars here were rather expensive.
He felt very helpless and refused her proposal by directly pus.h.i.+ng her out of the shop.
In the end, he chose a BMW car suitable for women with the best safety performance among all the cars of the same price on a one-year installment.
She looked at the BMW car in front of her with her eyes wide open, “Are you out of your mind? Why buy such an expensive car?”
He directly rolled his eyes at her and pushed her into the driver seat. “Try the car.”
Sitting on the driver seat, she swallowed her saliva and asked, “Which one is the accelerator?”
She said while looking at him with a gloomy face, “Why did you buy such an expensive car? I can't drive anymore. If I drive the car to run into something, its maintenance fee will be way higher than I can imagine.”
He poured cold water on her without a second thought. “I buy this good car because I don't trust your driving skills. Since you drive a fancy car, other drivers will avoid you. Thus, you'll be much safer. I don't have much money around, so you can drive the car for now. When I'm rich, I'll buy you a better one.”
She felt stressed out. “Buying another one?”
She said upon looking at him, “I suspect you're a son of a super-rich family. Your money-spending idea is so different from ours.”
As she was complaining, she got the car started. Yes, such a fancy car worthy of a million dollars was so different. As she drove the car, she smiled excitedly.
Seeing her smile, he asked, “Happy now? Didn't you complain about that just now?”
She said with her lips puckered, “I didn't complain. This car is registered under my name, so I'm extremely happy. Will I be a rich woman?”
“You're happy, aren't you? How do you thank me?”
After some thoughts, she said, “I haven't cooked for some time. What would you like to eat? I'll make a rich meal for you.”
He pointed at his face and said, “You should kiss me than make a rich meal! Come on, give me a loud kiss.”
Speaking of which, he approached her.
She felt speechless at him who always wanted to take advantage of her and slapped his face away. “Go away.”
