Idiot In Love -98 Chapter 18: Aching Hear

The four of them sat at the same table with six other people. Yi Fei and NaNa sat next to each other; meanwhile, their respective partner sat beside them.

Yi Fei kept on running to the backstage to check on her students who were going to perform; she will sit for a while and the next second, she will run to the backstage. Yi Fei could only make a small talk with Bai Jing Ting and Wu Chen and then off she went.

NaNa, on the other hand, was appointed as the photographer of the event. She was everywhere taking pictures of each and everyone in the room. She did not even bother to talk to his cousin; she left Wu Chen to fend for himself.

The other six people who were sitting at the same table with them were all teachers from Faith Middle School. Since they never seen Wu Chen around, they were curious about him.

"Hi Mister, I saw that you came with Miss NaNa just now. Are you her boyfriend?" One of the teachers, a plump middle age man with a kind smile asked politely. Everyone perked up after the man asked the question. Bai Jing Ting tilted his head; he was obviously interested in the topic.

"I'm not. I'm her cousin" Wu Chen answered concisely. The teachers nodded their head in understanding.

"Aiyo… Miss NaNa is still single then " One of the teachers, thin man in his early forty chimed in. "This is good for you Physician Bai. You can choose one between them" The man laughed and added more remarks.

"Choose what? Isn't clear already? He asked Miss Fei to be his partner tonight. Even their characters are couple ar…" The plump man interjected.

Bai Jing Ting did not respond to any of the query thrown at him; he smiled and let the others tease him. The neglected Wu Chen glanced at Bai Jing Ting. He could see that Bai Jing Ting obviously enjoyed the teasing.

The teachers stopped teasing Bai Jing Ting when Yi Fei returned to their table. After a while, NaNa returned too. They began eating and the students performed a few dances and song.

"Brother Chen, how did you know Brother Ting?" While eating, Yi Fei asked suddenly. Yi Fei had been curious about Bai Jing Ting and Wu Chen. She wanted to ask earlier but she was so busy handling the kids backstage that she couldn't ask the question she wanted to ask the most.

Yi Fei had asked NaNa about it when NaNa was taking the pictures at the backstage but NaNa did not know anything about Wu Chen and Bai Jing Ting. For the sake of her novel, she needed to ask the person involved themselves.

"University friend" Bai Jing Ting answered briefly while putting the fish head into Yi Fei's plate. "Fei, you should eat more. You have been busy since morning" Bai Jing Ting's little act of consideration received a knowing look and smile from the rest of the teachers in the same table.

Wu Chen was irked because he wanted to take the fish head to himself but it was taken by Bai Jing Ting before he even could move. He glanced at the shorty and saw that she was oblivious of the look thrown by her colleagues.

Bai Jing Ting cleared his throat before speaking. "Miss NaNa, you should eat too. You are going to be busy taking pictures after this" NaNa who had stuffed her mouth with a lot of food could only nod to agree with Bai Jing Ting.

Wu Chen realized that Bai Jing Ting used a different tone when addressing the shorty and NaNa. Bai Jing Ting addressed NaNa as Miss NaNa; it was a bit formal and distant. Meanwhile, he addressed the shorty as Fei as if they were really close to each other.

Seeing that Bai Jing Ting treated the girls differently, Wu Chen harboured a suspicion in his heart; that Bai Jing Ting had a crush on shorty.

After eating, Yi Fei and NaNa continued on with their duty leaving both men to entertain themselves. The event was an eye opener for Wu Chen. He never thought that the staff dinner for school could be like a prom night.

The quiet Bai Jing Ting suddenly scooted over to Yi Fei's seat. Wu Chen was surprised by the move. Bai Jing Ting muttered something to Wu Chen but due to the loud noise, Wu Chen could not hear anything. Wu Chen pointed to the exit, stood up and walked away. Bai Jing Ting followed after him.

Wu Chen sat on the bench near the entrance. Bai Jing Ting sat beside him. Both of them were quiet; n.o.body talked. After some time, Bai Jing Ting spoke first.

"How are you?" After thinking of what should be said, Bai Jing Ting could only ask this.

"I'm fine. How are you?" Wu Chen asked back.

"I'm fine too. Are you here for Wu Hotel?" Bai Jing Ting had known about Wu Chen's family since the first day they met in university. Both of their family were famous in the business world after all.

"I did not expect you to be in City L" Wu Chen had always thought that Bai Jing Ting will take over his family business.

"I'm doing the things I like. Hospital is too much for me. I prefer to be a physician in school" Bai Jing Ting did not explain much to Wu Chen. But they understand each other. They don't really have to say much.

The event went along smoothly until and when it was half an hour before 11 o'clock, the emcee asked all the guests to sit on their respective seat because they wanted to announce the best dresser of the night.

Wu Chen excused himself to go to the washroom so Bai Jing Ting entered the ballroom first. Later, Wu Chen entered the ballroom and the first thing he saw was, Bai Jing Ting tried to fix the shorty's wig. From the entrance of the ballroom, Wu Chen could clearly see the loving expression on Bai Jing Ting's face when he fixed the wig. The shorty, of course, was oblivious to everything.

Wu Chen spontaneously moved to the corner of the ballroom. He did not understand it but his body automatically moved to the corner of the ballroom as if he did not want the pair of Harley Quinn and Joker to see him peeking at them.

"Now is the moment you all are waiting for… The best dresser for tonight will be the King and the Queen of the night. They will receive a crown and sash. They will also receive the honour of the first dance…" Drum rolls accompanied the emcee as they talked.

"The King and The Queen of the Night would be…" Drum rolls were getting intense.

"The Joker and Harley Quinn!!! Physician Bai and Miss Yi Fei!!!" A round of applause filled the hall.

Yi Fei and Bai Jing Ting went onto the stage to receive their crown and sash. After that, Perfect by Ed Sheeran started playing and the audiences cheered "Dance…dance… dance… dance…" So Yi Fei and Bai Jing Ting started dancing to the music. The light dimmed to accompany the dance.

From the dark corner, Wu Chen could only watch as the Harley Quinn and the Joker were dancing arm-in-arm. There were so many people inside the ballroom and it was so noisy but for some reasons, he could only see the pair dancing and smiling at each other.

Wu Chen's leg seemed to have mind on its own. He walked towards the exit, not bothering to look back. He did not know how and why, but his heart ached.
